Public lecture and exhibition on accessibility

Learn more about the rights of people with disabilities at a public lecture on 20 May. And experience the diversity of accessibility at an exhibition in the HIL building.

Lecture on the rights of people with disabilities

After a good four years, the implementation programme ‘Barrier-Free at ETH Zurich’ is coming to an end. The conclusion of the programme and the projects also marks the start of a permanent commitment to the topics of accessibility, barrier-free design, design for all and inclusion at ETH.

We are taking this change as an opportunity to host a public lecture by Markus Schefer. He is external page Professor of Constitutional and Administrative Law at the University of Basel and Swiss member of the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Ulrich Weidmann, Vice President for Infrastructure and Sustainability, and Julia Dannath, Vice President for Personnel Development and Leadership, will open the event with a welcome address.

We look forward to welcoming you on Tuesday, 20 May, from 4 to 5 p.m. and at the reception afterwards: Information and registration

Photos, texts, comics and a number of tactile objects illustrate how ETH Zurich is implementing greater accessibility and inclusion. From education and events to topics such as safety and construction, an exhibition in the foyer of the HIL building – opposite the ISC Hönggerberg – shows how diverse the topic of accessibility is.

For example, try out simulation glasses to see for yourself what it feels like to have impaired vision. And ask yourself: what hinders you in your everyday life?

Accessibility

Accessibility affects us all: every day, everyone faces barriers of varying degrees. ETH Zurich aims to minimise these barriers or, ideally, remove them completely. The university should be designed according to the principle of ‘design for all’ so that everyone has largely unrestricted access to its buildings and services.
